The summer unit themes are special. Each unit will stand alone. Take the units in order or use them as your children’s program needs them. Unit 1: Worship The boys and girls across all age levels will come to an understanding of the different parts of worshp—gathering, praising, praying, proclaiming the Word, and responding. Using the psalms and various New Testament references, the children will experience an understanding so that they can participate in their class worship as well as the corporate worship of the larger congregation. Unit 2: In the Holy City Jerusalem was a great city, even in ancient biblical times. In this unit the boys and girls will hear Bible stories that revolve around the Holy City. The first two stories take place after the Exile, when the people are returning to their homeland to find it in sad shape. Zerubabbel, the governor of the city, and Nehemiah both contribute to creating a new faith community on the ashes of the one before. In the third story the boys and girls will hear how Jesus came to the holy city as a boy to celebrate the Passover festival, and how in his enthusiasm to learn more about God, forgot to go home with his parents. In the last story, the children will hear about the first Christians who used jerusalem as the center of their operations and how the disciples continued to add more and more believers to their number every day. Unit 3: Favorite Bible Passages This unit includes five all time favorite Bible passages—John 3:16; the Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12); Ask, Seek, and Knock (Matthew 7:7); Christ Strengthens (Philippians 4:13), and On Eagles’ Wings (Isaiah 40:21–31). The Reproducible Activities Book includes eight reproducible sheets for each week, with a Bible story, activities for all age levels, and a page to send home.
