His first initiation had seen the removal of the blindfold and the rope about his neck. As a Freemason (he was assured) he had come into the light, and the path ahead promised further wisdom and knowledge. Years later his second initiation brought him through the waters of Christian baptism, into a new life without secret gatherings and esoteric teaching. Masonry had revealed its true nature.
